Louis Francescutti

Over the course of his career, Dr. Louis Francescutti has made it his mission to raise awareness of public safety and to promote injury prevention.  Born in Montréal, Francescutti received his combined Doctor of Philosophy (Immunology) and Doctor of Medicine from the University of Alberta and his Masters of Public Health at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland.  He is the past President of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (2010 – 2012).  Currently he works as an emergency physician at the Royal Alexandra Hospital and the Northeast Community Health Centre in Edmonton and he is also the newly appointed President of the Canadian Medical Association

For decades, Francescutti has spearheaded various public safety awareness initiatives and campaigns, including the award winning multimedia injury prevention program for teenagers called HEROES. His work has earned him many accolades; one of Alberta’s Top 100 Physicians of the Century, the Alberta Centennial Medal, the Champion for Children Award, a Paul Harris Fellowship, one of Alberta’s 50 most influential people, the appointment as the first Honorary Colonel of 1 Field Ambulance Edmonton and the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee medal.
